Title says it all - I've been using VV since the 2.0 incarnation. I understand the fundamental differences between the two products, but what am I missing without Soundforge? Thanks, Eric |

The biggest advantage I can think of is to enhance or tweak your audio for the mastering process (like converting from 24-bit/96 kHz to 16-bit/44.1 kHz for CD audio). Iacobus |

You can actually do sample conversions and bit depth conversions within Vegas. Sound Forge has a few features which Vegas doesn't, like "Remove DC offset", "Synthesis/sinewave generator", "Reverse audio", audio "statistics (ie rms value). That's about it though, you can pretty much accomplish everything in Vegas, that you can in Sound Forge, it mostly depends on the method that you prefer to do certain things, because SF and Vegas will allow you to do lots of similar tasks, just done in a different manor. |

Region creation and extraction are also big tools in Forge. SF is more of the nitty-gritty, disect the individual wave app -- like a Super Chopper and Trimmer all in one. When it comes down to really tweaking an individual file, I don't think Vegas comes close. IMHO. |

To put it as concisely as I can: Sound Forge is (mostly) a *file* editor. Vegas is (mostly) a *project* editor. Don't forget there are free demos on the website. Try it for yourself! J. |

Thanks all. Mars Music (RIP) sold me a copy of SF6.0 for $89. They should go out of business more often. :) --Urk |
