I have made this suggestion few times already, but Sonic Foundry didn't care enough. Here are the suggestions: 1. Add a feature for "lossless" MP3 editing, so that users can cut and/or paste parts of an MP3 file, or just plain fix some parts, and don't have to re-encode the whole MP3 file again, but simply have the non-edited parts remain intact while only the edited parts are encoded. I have seen this feature in few professional audio editing programs, and I also have few FREE programs that are made specifically for this. I don't see how could Sonic Foundry claim to be the best, without having the best, and this feature is a must have. If some guys can do this, and even offer it for free, then Sonic Foundry is definitely capable of it, and it's a shame it doesn't do it! 2. Add Monkey's Audio support - Monkey's Audio format has a really good compression ratio, it achieves higher compression ratios than the PCA format, it saves the COMPLETE WAV FILE as it is, and all that at significantly shorter times! I tried few times to losslessly compress Sonic Foundry's loops, and when I compress them in PCA format, and then decompress, I lose the header information, like Beats Per Minute, Root Note, etc., while Monkey's Audio saves all this information, and achieves higher compression ratio at in less time. I think that Sonic Foundry should offer a job to the guy who works on this format. His website is www.monkeysaudio.com and his name is Matthew T. Ashland. There are few other features I wanted to mention, but have slipped out of my mind at this time. I will post them here when I remember what they were. |
