Subject:I need help to record from tape to .wav

I have songs on a tape that I want to get onto my computer. I got a Y-Adapter Audio Cable that connects to my Sound Blaster 16 sound card in my Line-in port and the other end hooks up into the RCA outlets on the back of my tape deck. When I press record I put Soundblaster 16 on the drop down list of devices. Then when I press record from that box it will not record anything. Please help me. Thank you.

Double-click the yellow speaker icon in the systray > Options > Properties > Recording > OK, select line in and adjust the recording volume with this fader while viewing the levels in SF's record window.

I did that. It seems like it is not picking up the tape deck. Do you have any other suggestions?

A Y-cord ? You need a straight cable from 2 phono (tape deck out) to 1/8" jack (soundcard line in).

Enable that input in you SB mixer, select that input in SF and go for it.

Make sure you use the tape deck 'line out' (play) as opposed to 'line in' (record)like I tried to last night....

On the back of my stereo I have a AUX with (RCA)two ports. I plugged the two phono plugs into the back of the stereo. Then the other end I put in the line-in port of my sound card. For some reason I can not record any sound coming from the stereo. What else should I try???

That AUX jack is probably an input, not an output. This would be used to let you connect another sound source (like a CD player or a VCR) to your stereo. You need to find something that is specifically an output. Look for Line Out, Record Out, or something like that. Even a headphone jack would work if nothing else is available.

Can you make a picture of your stereo from the front and back, and send it to me at edinfific@hotmail.com. I will take a look, mark the output, and tell you exactly what you need to do!

It worked. I had to use my headphone jack as an output. Thank you!
