Which version? What steps? What format? Need more details than that.

It is version 5.0b. I was trying to normalize mp3's and keeping them as mp3's.
I had triedf other filters but thought I would only use Normalization as it appears to be the most useful one. In any event, i get the same damn response. A necessary function has not been implemented". What function? How come HELP is useless? I did a search for this statement and came up empty. Sonic Foundry should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such rubbish!

First, try downloading and installing the latest patch for Sound Forge 5.0 from the website (5.0f). Second, are you saving as .mp3 or as .wav with an mp3 ACM codec? Third, what are the template parameters? Fourth, when exactly do you see the error? Fifth, have you contacted tech support yet?

Again, the more precise steps you can provide, the better SF can attempt to reproduce it. Personally, I've never heard of this error coming up before, though I know what the message means. The "necessary function" is referring to something internal that is beyond the user's control.

Anyone else out there ever seen this?

J.

I'm actually using Sound Forge 6.0 but the problem isn't with Sound Forge but with Batch converter 5.0b which is a separate, stand alone program.
I'm saving as mp3 not .wav. The template parameters are all set to the proper settings for this conversion process.

Any other suggestions? Thanks

i also have this problem.
i am converting mp3 files into 30 second clips using the 'trim' plugin.
the first 5 or so were successful, but now i keep getting this same message 'A necessary function has not been implemented.'
i have restated the program and tried one file at a time, but to no avail....any help would be most appreciated.
cheers

Have you registered (or purchased) MP3? You may have exhausted your trial MP3 encodes. Sounds like Batch Converter may not be handling this correctly.

You can register for MP3 from Sound Forge 5.0 or 6.0. Load an audio file into Forge, select File | Save As and choose MP3 from the "Save as type" dropdown. Click Custom and from the settings dialog click the Register button.

Be sure to restart Batch Converter after you've registered for MP3. Let us know if this does (or doesn't) fix your problem.
