I posted this under the dx forum, but then I noticed that there is not a lot of activity there. So here goes a "re-post." I have been using sound forge xp for some time and have really enjoyed it. Lately I've needed to edit some things that were recorded on a cassette tape, and I need to get rid of or reduce the hiss from the cassette format. Do I need to get the full sound forge and the noise reduction plug-in or are there simpler and cheaper solutions? |

Sonic Foundry's Noise Reduction does a great job for this kind of work. And yes, I think you do need the full version as I don't think Sound Forge Studio supports dirext-x plugins. I'm not sure if there's a cheaper plugin or app that will give you the same quality. Dave |

As Dave noted, Sound Forge Studio 6.0 does not support DirectX plug-ins as the full Sound Forge 6.0 does. You can check out this KB article for a little more info. (Sound Forge XP Studio simply became Sound Forge Studio if you're wondering.) HTH, Iacobus |

Thanks. I guess the idea of doing this cheap isn't going to work. |

I found a pretty good deal at Safeharbor (www.sharbor.com) for a Noise Reduction and CD Architect bundle this month for $199.00. Checked today, its still there. And get this, the retail guy on the phone at Sonic Foundry is who steered me to it! Good dude! As you know, that is less than you can buy either product separately for. I have gotten it, and love the Noise Reduction program. Its worth it, especially compared to the Steinberg noise plug-in option (600.00). |

try groove mechanic at coyote electronics (google search for it). It's $40 or so and you can try it for free. Intended for LPs, works OK w/o a lot of control. I quit using it when I got the noise reduction plug in. |
