Both. :)

Actually, what I meant is that its main purpose is not only for editing but for creating original music as well—but don't use it all by itself if you want to create complete projects.

Sound Forge is not a multitracker or loop arranger like Vegas and ACID Pro are respectively. All three are basically meant to complement one another. When you record in Vegas or ACID Pro, for example, you can edit the track externally in Sound Forge to access its functions, such as deleting extraneous data you don't want. When you save the changes in Sound Forge, they're automatically applied in Vegas or ACID Pro when you switch back to the respective app. (This is also called round trip editing.) Very handy.

HTH,
Iacobus

Sure it is 'reliable enough' - it is a profession audio editor. However whether or not it is the appropriate application for what you want is another story.

SForge can act prefectly well as a 2 track (stereo) recorder. Subsequent to recording, you can edit the recorded files (and 'master', etc) , and make a track-at-once CD.

If you want to make a 'disk at once' CD, your need CD Architect or Vegas.

If you want to record more than 2 tracks you need an application like Vegas or Acid. Vegas will record as many tracks similatneously as your soundcard has. Acid is more orientated to loop-based audio production, and only records 2 tracks similateously.

If you are heavily into MIDI, then SF do not have the app for you.
