Just got Acid Pro 4.0 loaded up Sound Forge Studio 6.0. While uploading tracks from my Tascam Porta One 4 track (stereo out to mini mic input on dell notebook)in sound forge. I can set levels and record and hear play back. But I cannot hear any sound while setting levels during cueing the recording process. I can only hear the playback, which necessitates a few takes to get it right. is this a problem with the sound card on my notbook (Dell Latitude C-600) or is this an inherent problem with sound forge? Also, do I need an external card to do this type of recording.

You should be going to a 'line in', not a 'mic in'.

You should be able to hear sound via your mixer applet , from your deck, whether or not SForge is running.

Most onboard laptop soundcards are pretty crappy, but maybe not more crappy than cassette in the first place. There are a number of external USB-based interfaces available that may be of superior quality.

My card must fall into the crappy category. There is no "line in", "mic in" is
"line in" which means I need to get an external device. Any suggestions?
As for the sound... I can hear it (playback only) just not when I am cueing levels to record and whilst recording.

"I can hear it (playback only) just not when I am cueing levels to record and whilst recording"

Do you have "monitor" checked in the SF record window?

Is the soundcard full duplex?
