howdy, I just got a mini disc player to record my live shows (musician). I have not yet bought a software app that will let me record my MD files onto my computer, as I have discovered I have to do, but I am looking into sound forge or sound forge studio. Obviously I would rather buy studio because of the price difference. Does anyone know if, using sound forge studio 6, I will be able to record (analog) my mini disc data into the program, save it, and then burn cds of it? |

stewart, my advise is to run rca cables to your sound card and dump it that way. if your card doesnt have rca then try burnning your stuff to cd then rip it into sound forge. depending on what you are doing will depend on what version you should buy. if you want a lot of editing options and plugins, then the full version is better. |

Thanks for the reply, mjmm. All I want to do is burn cds from my minidisc recordings- I dont want to do too much editing- but the mini disc won't let me just upload stuff from it onto the computer without some kind of software like sound forge. I noticed some folks talking about the diff between studio and the full version, saying that with studio you can only record 8 or 16 bit files....does anyone know how that will effect the ability to record onto sound forge from a mini disc player? Is mini disc data in that form or is it 24 bit? I am not even sure what that means- I just want ot make sure I don't buy studio and find I can't use it to record mymini disc stuff onto the computer.... Does that make sense? |

Sound forge works great for this. However most if not all portable MDs can only output through the headphone/line output jack, so you will probably have to use that. Use line level in on a good sound card and you'll have no worrys. You will more than likely need a stereo miniplug to stereo miniplug if you have a portable MD and a consumer soundcard. A good rule of thumb is to shut down all non-essential applications (antivirus, screensavers, ect.) when doing the transfer/recording. For more info on MDs go here: minidiscussion |

thanks for the info- so are you saying that Studio will be fine and I don't have to use the full version? |

If you don't need DX plug-ins or the other extras, the studio version should work for you fine. |
