I have been asked to create a workout mix for some of the ladies at my church. They have given me the songs (on CD) and the Beats Per Minute (BPM's) they want for each song through the session. I blindly tried using Time Stretch and my final track which should have been at 150 bpm was at about "warp" 9. It seems that time stretch needs to know the original BPM's before it can correctly change to the desired BPM's. Is there any plug-in that can scan the track and give me the original BPM's or do I need to use something other than SF 6.0d Build 219? Any help willbe appreciated as I don't want to be guilty of "offing" any of our fine ladies by "aerobicide"! |

Sound Forge doesn't know anything about BPM of a piece of music. If you know the BPM, it should be a linear *time* scaling to adjust to the new speed. However Acid is all about knowing BPMs, and would be a doddle to set to the new BPM rate. geoff |

Here's how to find the BPM of a file. In sound Forge select as exactly as possible by listening 1 measure of audio >Select it and Trim > right click on it, select Properties > General tab, record the number of samples. In HS/PA using "Audio View", select as exactly as possible by listening 1 measure of audio > Right-click > Event Properties, Duration; (xxxxxxx) Samples. Multiply the number of samples per second by the number of seconds in a minute then multiply that by the number of beats in the selection, then divide that number by the number of samples in the selected audio. Let's use 44.1kHz and 4 beats per measure the equation would be; 44100 x 60 x 4 = 10584000/(number of samples in selected audio) = BPM MJ |

I downloaded a trial version of Acid and haven't been able to figure out how to change song tempo. Also I tried mjhig's formula and still haven't a clue as to what I'm doing. HELP? |

When you record or load the first media file, it becomes 'beatmapped' - the tempo is detected, or you can initiate this manually. To change the tempo, move the Project Tempo slider. or double click the tempo number and enter a new one. It's all in 'help' and in the downloadable manual. geoff |

What version of Acid are you referring to and can I test this function in the trial version? |

Acid 4 , but I assume is has been pretty standard in all versions. Sure you should be able to do it (I guess) - it is fundamental to the whole program. Better ask in the Acid forum ... geoff |
