Subject:GREAT QUESTION...Stereo Recording tainted by MONO input

Scenario... Recorded live DJ set, from record output of DJ Mixer, into Sony MiniDisc Recorder...unfortunately in STEREO..but too late for that. So..when Recorded into Sound Forge..LINE IN REC...the WAV appears to be in MONO..not double sided (visually) and some portions are lower than others, to be specific..every other record was like this..I learned that one of the the Turntables was refurbished...and for some reason plays in MONO. What do you guys think I can do??? I Normalized the WAV but that makes the above metioned lower MONO-toned records HISS. My next idea..is to use a program like MusicMatch and record the set in STEREO. Then copying the Dominant side (in Sound Forge) and duplicating it...to make it play on both sides (Left & Right). Does my story compute?? Any suggestions??? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!! |

Your story doesn't quite compute. First off Sound Forge has no problems in recording STEREO, so using "musicmatch" makes no sense to me. Open the "Record" window. Click on the "New" button and make sure "Stereo" is selected. If your connections are correct from your minidisc player to your sound card that ensures there is 2 outputs being fed to 2 inputs of your sound card, then STEREO will be recorded. If you have one of those 1/8" Line IN jacks on your sound card you'll have to make sure you have a "Stereo" 1/8" connector feeding the soundcard. If you have a MONO connector, then you don't have the proper connections. There should be 3 connection points on that connector (ie TIP/RING/SLEEVE). If there is 2, then this is a MONO connector and only has TIP/SLEEVE and you are only recording 1 side of your STEREO signal. |
