hello, i am not a regular sound forge user...but all i want to do is to take a song off a cd and cut out about 20 seconds worth and save it back as an mp3. i am able to crop this and save it as a wav file, but it is way too large. the original song file was saved to the computer as an mp3 but when i try to cut part out and save as mp3, it says "cannot save to the requested format" what am i doing wrong??? help!!

If you own properly registered software, you should be able to save to mp3. If not, you should probably contact Sonic Foundry Customer Service.

I believe while you work with the file in SF, it is in .WAV format. You can save your new WAV file, and use some other utility to convert it to MP3. I use Nero Media Player, which happily converts back and forth, WAV to MP3, as much as I need.
