Subject:Can't see waveform information

I'm a new SoundForger (i have 6.0). I am recording loops and audio into a Mackie VLZ-series mixer and running that audio into an Echo Layla card for recording into Sonar, ACID or SoundForge. I am having no problems recording, the meters register relatively 'hot' when i record and i can adjust this. The problem that i am having is that once i get audio recorded and i go back to edit it, i don't see the classic waveform. The data is more or less a "flatliner", a straight line across the screen with a few very minute bumps in it. I've tried to use the Zoom tool and it doesn't really help much. It does 'zoom', but i don't get much more detail on the waveform and it certainly isn't the 'classic' waveform that you would see in all the literature. When i record a .wav file from a CD, no problem, the waveform data is right there. This makes it very hard to find transients and regular loop chunks precisely and is impeding my progress. I don't know if its in the way i'm recording the audio in (when i play it back, it plays at the volume that i'd expect) or if i'm not using SoundForge correctly. Has anyone seen this and can anyone offer a concrete suggestion? cheers, jim. |

What is 'relatively hot' ? Aim for loudest peak approaching 0dB, and certainly not less than -3dB. Peak levels shown on the meter (the SF record monitor meters) should be exactly what is shown in the data window. geoff |
