Is there a way to directly record a wave file from a Media Player (Windows Media Player, Real Player) as I'm playing it on my computer? When I go to my 'record' window in Soundforge and either try to 'click' on the 'moniter' box, or simply start the recording, I keep getting a 'pop up' that tells me "an unknown error in opening the audio in" has occurred. I'm using Soundforge 4.5, with a Lynx One soundcard, and Windows 98. I've even tried sending the 'analog out' to a receiver and then the 'analog in' through the headphone jack back into the computer. Can't seem to get a recording going. Any help will be much appreciated. |

You have to select the source in your soundcard's recording properties window; http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=3&MessageID=160295 MJ |

I found out from the Lynx One support folks that it is not possible (very easily) to record streaming media directly into Sound Forge with the Lynx One card, or other 'high end' soundcards. The options that mjhig suggested are not available with the Lynx One card. Turns out that this is more often possible with a cheaper soundcard. My at least temporary solution: I still have my 'old' computer. I hook that up to the internet, and hook the outgoing sound from the streaming audio I'm listening to to the 'analog in' cables on my 'better' computer, and can thus 'stream audio' from one computer and record it on the other. |

According to the Silent Bob FAQ you need an audio loopback cabel, so no help there. Try VAC (Virtual Audio Cable). http://www.ntonyx.com/vac.htm geoff |

Whoops ... didn't read far enough down the FAQ. Here's an interesting article on the subject over at Tech TV: http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/products/story/0,24330,3420254,00.html They've got links to various software manufacturers for this kind of thing. Doug |

I don't mean to gloat or anything but I can record streaming audio just fine with my soundcard. (M-Audio Audiophile 2496.) All I have to do is route audio to my soundcard's software monitor mixer and choose that as recording input in Sound Forge. Iacobus |

Many soundcards/drivers don't have than facility built-in. And those that do can either be on the digital side, or the analogue side (= bad). geoff |
