Hi -

I have a 1 year old Compac presario 1Ghz system with 256 ram and Windows XP. When recording I get a distinctive click noise every 2 seconds or so with exact placement almost like a metronome.. What can I do to get rid of this? The monitor eq's show the little pop or click even befor I record so it there is something causing sounds card or video card conflicts.. However my device manager shows all clear..

Any suggestions out there??

Is the soundcard sharing resources (specifically, an IRQ) with another device? What you're describing is usually what happens when a soundcard and one or more devices share resources.

Ideally, you'd probably want the soundcard to have an IRQ all by itself. (There are newer technologies that make this issue obsolete, however...) You would usually go into your system's BIOS and reserve a specific IRQ for a specific slot. Not all BIOS' have this feature though. Check with your system's manual (if it came with one) or contact Compaq.

I had the same thing happen a while ago, a very subtle click... Drove me nuts, It was the Anti-virus software. It's always good to exit all non-esential software when recording anything important.
