Well, you can save to MP3 without saving as WAV first. However, while you're recording the data is being stored on your drive in uncompressed format. So, you'll still need to have enough space on your drive for an uncompressed version of the recording, you just won't need to have enough room for that AND saving an uncompressed version as well. Actually, i believe SoundForge attempts to rename the record buffer to the name you specify when saving instead of creating a new copy ... as long as you're saving to the same physical drive/partition. So, either way, you still need at least enough room for the original recording in uncompressed format, but once you've saved to MP3 this space can be released for the next recording session to use. |

No you can't. I'm not sure if there exists any software that can do that without at least a full-size temp file, and soundcard drivers only put out wav files. But hell, big hard drives are cheap as ! geoff |
