I am sure there is a similar post, but I am trying to record streaming media. I want to catch a local sports talk show online because I cannot catch it during work. I was using an evaluation version of Cool Edit Pro 2.1 for the scheduled recording at the shows start time. It worked, but I do not like the program and cannot justify spending another $250 when I have already spent $400 on sound forge. The show is 3 hours long, and sound forge cannot record that long in a timed record mode (punch in). Nor can I schedule Sound Forge to record for a particular length of time at a specified time. Does Sound Forge have any plans to implement this in future versions? If not, I will just bite the bullet and start using Cool Edit Pro instead. Is there anything in the meantime I can use other than CEP? |

Sound Forge 7.0 will include a number of new record features, including timer and threshold start/stop options. J. |

What are the benefits of threshold start/stop options? |

My guess is that threshhold start/stop would work something like this - Set a threshhold level, say -40dB - Connect to the input source, which isn't ready yet and is very quiet (no one has stepped up to the microphone yet ...) - Start recording, SoundForge sits in "idle" rather than actually recording - When the incoming signal level goes above -40dB, SoundForge begins recording - SoundForge continues recording until the signal level drops below -40dB for a specified period of time, say 5 seconds or so. - After the specified time period below the threshhold level, SoundForge returns to "idle" Sorta like a VOX function. At least that's my guess. |
