Subject:Does anyone know how to fix this distortion?

I'm an idiot! I recorded a wedding with my wireless mic plugged into the headphone jack instead of output. Needless to say there is distortion in the sound.

Is there anyway of fixing this in Sound Forge (or other software)? Please let me know how. I'm very familiar with Vegas, but new to Sound Forge. Thanks.

You could try Sonic Foundry's Noise Reduction plug-in (you have to pay for it). It has a "clipped peak restoration" component.

Do I just need the 'clipped peak restoration' to improve the sound? What settings should I adjust within this plug-in?

You are the only person who has seen/heard your particular distortion. So nobody can really make suggestions. As for basic driving lessons, they are in the manual/help. If you don't have NR2, I'm afraid nobody can give you any assurance that it will be able to fix your problem....

I downloaded your clip and played with it for a while, but the results weren't very useful. The problem is that it's not recording distortion but signal distortion before being recorded. The clipped peak removal function of Noise Reduction is designed to work with clips that occur from maxing out the recording medium. When your camera laid down the track, it did so at a much lower level than maximum and altered the shape of the peaks while doing so. They're not clipped anymore and Noise Reduction doesn't see any flattened tops to work on.

I tried quite a few settings in Noise Reduction, as well as a lot of playing around with smooth/enhance and EQ settings. Nothing seemed to make much improvement. Sorry. :(

Thanks so much Chienworks.... I really appreciate you trying. I will just work around the sound problem and not waste anymore time on it. Thanks for your help!
