I'm a newbie to Sound Forge and I have searched the manual but can't find the answer to my problem. Not yet anyway.
I have some very old audio tapes which still appear to be in good condition, but I recorded them with far too much volume and the meters are going right off the scale. Which tool can I use to bring them back to a reasonably sounding state? Thanks.

Much better yet, reduce the volume while you are recording them. It's definately worth the re-do.

Failing that, SonicFoundry's NoiseReduction 2.0 plugin has clipped peak restoration function that may (or may not) help.

Or do you mean the SForge meters ? Reduce the soundcard recording volume with the slider in your soundcard mixer applet (double-click the little speaker icon bottom-right in your Windows systray).

Or turn down the line out level on your tape (if it has one).

geoff
