Guess I'm confused moving between Vegas 4 and SF6 or something has changed in Marker creation.

In SF6 I need to create a bunch of markers and I need to give them descriptive names. What I want to do, and what I thought I used to be able to do, is press "M" to get the marker created, but I thought the program then put me in the edit mode in the field naming the marker. As it is I have to go through the extra steps to rename each marker.

I cannot find a way of turning the various automatic modes off. They are nice sometimes, just not now.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Here's the best I can come up with. First make sure the General preference "Always ask for regions and loop names" is set.

Select a small loop region with the mouse instead of a marker (make sure you start where you want the marker to start) and hit "R" to create the region. Now you'll be prompted with a dialog, type the name you want (name field is already selected). Next hit the Tab key once (sets focus to Type), hit the left arrow (selects Marker), and now hit Enter. You should have a named marker at the location you want, just a couple of extra keystrokes.

If you don't want to use the mouse at all, first use the left/right arrow to position the cursor. Now hold down Shift, then hold down the left/right arrow to create a small loop.

That particular behavior is unique to Acid/Vegas and hasn't made it into Sound Forge yet.

Probably the quickest thing is to create all your markers, then bring up the Regions List view and give it focus. Navigate with the arrow keys and hit Enter to bring up the marker/region props and the name field will have focus, type in the desired name and hit Enter, and it will be applied and dump you back to the Regions List view to repeat or navigate to the next one as desired.

Another option is to save the regions list as a .txt file (Special menu) and rename them all in there, then reload it. YMMV.

I"ll note this as a feature request for Sound Forge, but the reason it isn't in there already is because markers and regions have a good deal more user edit-able properties.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still looking forward to when the Vegas model is available, or better yet, when I can choose to enable this in Preferences :-)
