Subject:Record Level?

Hi,

I am recording audio from a turntable, into my receiver, and into sound forge 5.0. The record levels are very low. How can I raise the volume up on the audio? I have the monitor box checked with a level of -138 to 0 dB but I have no idea how to raise the volume up so the bars are in the yellow zone.

Thanks for your help,

Sam

You don't post your soundcard so generically double-click the speaker icon in the systray > Options > Properties > Recording > OK, select "Line in", adjust this fader while viewing the meters in SF.

Sam, Also I assme you are using a 'Phono' input on your 'receiver'. Turntable cartridges only put out a minute signal which needs the extra gain and RIAA EQ of this type of input.

Thanks! I have a Audigy sound card. Yes, i am using the phono input on the receiver to the "audio out" on the receiver, going into the Aux 2 on the sound card. The levels are at its highest on the volume controls on the PC. I am wondering if a phono pre amp would help as the LP's are pretty old. Would a mixer help at all?

Thanks,

Sam

No, the amp 'phono input' is a phono preamp. You shouldn't need any other preamp (or transformer) unless you have a Moving Coil cartridge 9as opposed to the usual Moving Magnet).

Line Out of your amp should be OK into your soundcard. Playing with levels on the systray mixer applet *should* get you pretty right....
