i've been trying to record some multiple part guitar tracks... is there any way i can have the track playing while i record more to it?

Launch a second copy of SoundForge. With version 6 you can have more than one open at a time. Play in one and set your sound card to record "mixed output" or "what you hear". The second SoundForge window will record both the input from the guitar and what the first window is playing.

If you only have version 5, then you can use Windows SoundRecorder to play back the previously recorded track.

Or use the appropriate tool - a multi-track app. Maybe Vegas LE - did come with SForge at some times.
