Subject:Why can't recording over -6dB?

I'm using Sound Forge 6 on Windows XP. I control my input from Recording Control. I cannot get the Volume too high. Voice over -6.0 would be clipped. I tried all the different settings in recording windows and Preferences, but no solution. I can use normalize to increase the volume and it sounds fine. Just wonder is there a setting I need to change so I can record at a higher volume?

Thanks for the help,

wfz

Try getting a professional microphone with a professional Mic/Pre amp, which has input and output adjustments and then get a professional sound card.

If everything over -6dB is clipped, your soundcard and/or it's driver is faulty. Or something in your signal chain prior to the soundcard is clipping.
