Subject:Converting Audio - Unusual question...

Ok, here is my question:

I found an old recording done on a 1/4 reel to reel. The machine that it I found with it is a piece of crap. So I played it thru my Tascam reel to reel 8 track, and here lies the challenge: the recording was done at a faster speed than my 8 track can handle, so when I listen to it, it is much faster, like a chipmunk type sound. I am unable to slow it down on the actual board, so i exported it off the board and into sound forge.

so now i have this recording digitalally, but when i play it back, it is too fast. so my question, how do i slow it down? i thought that it might need resampled? not sure, any suggestions would be helpful. does this make sense? its like a record recorded at 33rpm played back at 78.

thanks.

Very quick simple method: look for the sample rate displayed at the bottom of the window, double click on it, and enter a new value. Most likely the track is playing exactly twice as fast as it should be. If the current sample rate is 44100 try 22050. Once you've got the right speed, use Process / Resample to convert it back to 44100.
