Um... well.... If FX automation and Buss views (with mixing, automation), ASIO support, real-time monitoring, 5.1 channels, etc. aren't enough to sell you on V4 then I don't know what else to say.
Download the demo. Install it, read the "what's new in V4" section under Help and find out for yourself.

Real time monitoring...absolutely useless! It sounds like a freakin' robot voice.
anyway, vegas always did monitor...whether you wanted it or not...but the inputs are panned as to make that useless too.

Other than that, the efx automation is cool, but i always used it before by copying a track, then turning off "direct" sound and using volume envelope to taylor the level.
It is somewhat better the new way though.

ASIO is really great too, if you need it. WHat is so good about it?
when i used to re-trigger the kick and bring in back into vegas on another track
i would have to scoot the track up to be in sync with the original kick. Now i don't have to scoot it quite as far...but it's still not exact by any means.

Summary: do you need vegas 4? Probably not. I was using a crack of vegas 2, to see if I liked it, and I did, it was totally bug free for me. 4 is not. But I wanted to be legal and honest, so it is just the version that was available when i signed on. it's okay.

Thanks for the view PeterVred..! so many "rubber trees" around here, but it doesn't deter me from enjoying SF products...I'm sort of on the lower end of the food chain when it comes to power: still w/98SE, 1.7 AMD, etc...audio would be the only reason, and I don't use ASIO because MME works smoother with my setup..5.1..? prolly won't use it, and that's the issue with me more than anything...alot of nice stuff that I don't use, but we'll see said the blind man, I may bite on it anyway...cheuse..

Sounds like at your "level of the food chain" that V3 should be fine for you.

Hey, stusy. I remember your "Uncle Sam Needs Updates" post. Hilarious.

Anyway...

When (in a near future I hope) V4 becomes stable, I see no reason to stick to V3. The ASIO support, plug-in automation and all that is cozy enough, but the scripts... Man, the SCRIPTS! I'd pay for that feature alone. Such a wonderful world of opportunities.

the scripts are missing the stuff I really need them for, like splits
