i record my church's sermons (a little over 1 hour) and sometimes, at random it seems, the recording will stall (noted by the time counter on the record screen) and then however long it stalls it compresses that portion of the recording to this high rate sample (i.e. 30 mins down to a 5 sec sample). I have my computer set to not use screensaver, nor shutdown any parts of the computetr. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This also occurs sometimes with a shorter recording, say 20 mins. Thanks for any help

What are the specs of your computer?

I do this same thing every sunday morning recording usually about 75 to 85 minutes for the entire service. I use Windows 98SE on an 800MHz P3 and never have any difficulties. Often we have lots of other software running on the computer at the same time including a web browser, PowerPoint, Word, Vegas, media player, instant messengers, ssh terminals, etc. I've had SoundForge record over 3 hours straight at 44.1KHz 16 bit stereo without missing a beat.

What operating system are you using and how much space do you have on your hard drive?

Also, have you run MSCONFIG to see what you have in your startup. Most problems I've had have been caused by something running in the background that interupts my processor. I cleaned my startup down to only the necessities and that cured most of the issues I've ever had.

I also edit my churches messages and we have chosen to record them directly to CD and then extract them through SF for editing. This has worked very well and gives the church the option of selling duplicates immediately after the service.

Exit ALL non-essential programs. See if that helps.

How are your drive partitions set up?
