I want to record to a pre-recorded sound, that is, listen to one sound file while recording another, which will then be mixed with the first. mt |

Ideally you need a multitrack program like Vegas for this. Even VideoFactory has three strereo tracks that can be recorded and monitored individually. If you need to stick with SoundForge 4.5, then probably the best you can do is to play the first sound back in Windows Media Player while recording the mix with the new sound in SoundForge. If you set your sound card to record from the "What you hear" or "mixed output" option, you'll get both the old and the new sounds mixed together. |

You could try Audacity, at http://audacity.sourceforge.net .... it's free, but it's not as powerful as Sound Forge, of course. Since you already have Sound Forge, Audacity would work to combine your individual tracks. It's not easy to adjust panning, though, and it's really short on controls [I mean, REALLy short], but whaddya want for free? Try it. It won't bite. |
