I hope I can make it clearer in your new thread on the same topic. The answer is no. This is the most common question in this/many audio boards, just check the FAQs or do a search for "remove vocals" or "remove instruments" etc. Once music is mixed to stereo, no matter what anyone else says, if you expect the quality to be as good as the original track, it is impossible. It can be likened to removing the sand from set up concrete, the flower from a baked cake or the sperm from the egg after the baby is born, sorry for the bad news. MJ |

I don't think it was possible to understand your question, in the way it was put ! -) No, there is no way you can extract 'acapella' type vocals from a stereo mixed file. To get this, you would need access to the individual tracks in a multitrack recording, if the recording ever went through that stage. It is easy to acheive that sort of mix with all multi-track hardware, by simply soloing the vocal parts, or muting the 'other' parts. geoff |

"You guys misunderstood my acapella question" No we didn't miss a thing about your question. You're asking FAQ#6 just as I mentioned just worded differently. It's the same answer. Ask it one more time a different way, and we can answer you the third time, and maybe it'll finally sink in. |

For: Rednold You don't have to be so damn rude. I don't use this program and I missed the FAQ. I thought it may be possible even if it's not clear, since there's a WINAMP plugin that allows you to extract the instrumental from the song. Also the only reason I came here was because some guy from another site said it may be possible through this program. |

"I thought it may be possible even if it's not clear, since there's a WINAMP plugin that allows you to extract the instrumental from the song." Did you try the Winamp to see the resulting wave file you get after extracting the vocals? Sounded good? Not so good? Not good at all? What you have to realize is that you are asking this question on a forum which caters to professionals and aspiring professionals*. Sound Forge is a program that is used professionally on a daily basis, to give professional results. What you are asking is impossible...on a professional level. The result would be so poor that nobody could charge someone for the end product. For you to purchase Sound Forge to only extract vocals would be a HUGE waste of your money. For us to tell you that Sound Forge can do it well would be a HUGE disservice to you. This question comes up alot under different wordings. The best thing is if you plan on getting into audio editing, read up the subject first. Then you'll understand what can and can't be done with audio editors. One other thing you can't do with SF is make Mariah Carey sound like Barry White while keeping the background music intact. Once a song is mixed...that's it. On the other hand, there are many, many things that can be accomplished using SF. http://www.sonicfoundry.com/Products/showproduct.asp?PID=668&FeatureID=5775 See above link for a list of some of them. M *People who, although not using SF professionally, realize the power of this software and understand the possibilities it offers. |

Thanks for you reply but just because someone lives on a program doesn't give them a right to make rude remarks. As a Sonic Foundry customer I have the right to ask whatever I please on these boards. If you think your too professional and advanced to answer simplistic questions then why reply. Ignore and continue on. I simply was misinformed and got the answer I was looking for. Like I said before even if it's not clear - so from this statement you can tell I'm not trying to publish something from any acapella I extract - besides it's copyrighted in the first place if I'm trying to extract it. Also thanks to the first 2 replies - at least these guys show some class. |

Sorry, didn't mean to be rude. Maybe, you can understand your own rudeness in saying "You guys misunderstood my acapella question". To me, that's pretty rude when you ask a question, and you get 5 replies back, and you say we misunderstood the question. NO!!! You are misunderstanding the whole concept of audio recording and mixing. Come back when you know a little more, and are able to ask some more informed questions. "As a Sonic Foundry customer I have the right to ask whatever I please on these boards. " and as a Sonic Foundry customer I have the right to answer however I please on these boards, and if you don't like the way I do it, then take some of your own advice. |

In reply to that comment, if he was more informed he wouldn't have to come here to ask a question now would he. He wasn't trying to be rude he just wasn't sure if the RE were understanding him, if you felt that you already answered his question then you should have just passed it up. I myself am a DJ and i do a little producing but i don't know squat about editing audio so i come here for help. People like you discourage people like myself and the orginal poster from coming here for answers to our simple stupid questions. So if the questions are to below you to answer then don't but there is no need to make the newbs fell uneducated |
