Subject:Sound Forge 6 as a 4-track?

I have two seperate stereo recordings, that I would hate to convert to mono, and I would like to mix them. Can I get four tracks out of Sound Forge 6?
I have one main file, and want to add bits too it without the one file shifting to the right and the other coming into the left.
I'm not sure this is making sense, but please help

It is very fundamental to be able to mix two files together. At the risk of sounding abrupt, have you looked at the manual, or Help ?

However if there is any complex alignment or time/pitch stretching involved in getting them to line up, vegas LE might be a more approprite tool.

you can recognize a technically inept pretty quickly. Yes this is a very fundamental question. I've used protools on a mac before, and have had no problem mixing 6-8 tracks with fades and what not. I'm not doing anything too fancy, just synching up sections and simple fades. I'm working with the audio from a play where two mics were used. One mic was the main one, but in some parts I need to mix in the second mic. No I haven't read the manual or searced in help much, yet. I'm sure I will soon. I'm just wondering if there is access to more than 2 tracks in 6.0. Everything else makes sense to me.
If not, I don't want an abrupt switch from the main track playing in stereo to the two tracks splitting into seperate speakers and then back again. If its useless to attempt to explain to me everything I need to know to figure this out, which I'm sure it could be, just tell me to read the manual. On the other hand, if you can think of any sagely wisdom, I'm all ears.
Thanks...

Sound Forge is a 2 channel editor. You can mix separate files, but not as a realtime or auditionable operation. This is nothing to do with Macs or PCs - it's to do with the nature of an application type, like coparing ProTools to Bias Peak. You *can* do graphics in Word, but it's better to use a graphics application.

You really need to use a multi-track app like Veags (LE which I understand is free for SF owners ???) which is more appropriate for what you want to do. Being a 'multi-track app (more similar to PT) you can audition and mix separate tracks - tweaking relative levels, auditioning in real time, tweaking volumes/envelopes/etc, and finally rendering a mix.

I'm doubtful about Vegas being free for SF owners, GW. I mean, if it is, gimme gimme. Was it a special offering at one point? I'd like to follow up if you can point the way, as I have SF6 arriving any day now.

Vegas Video LE is available to registered SF 6.0 (full only) users for free. How you get it all depends on how you purchased Sound Forge. If you bought the download version, there should have been a link to VV LE 3.0 on the download page. I believe the CD-ROM version comes with it (but don't quote me).
