Hi. I have just formatted a hard drive that did not function correctly and now when i run sound forge i find that the meter shows a level of about -37.5 on the left channel and -38.7 on the right. Before the format, i was getting a level of about -42 which was perfect for what I'm doing! I have no idea what has changed since i formatted, but this leads me to think that i have some settings problem in windows. I was wondering if anyone knows what i could try to rectify this... So far i have nullified and muted all of the input devices in "volume control" and this doesnt seem to change these levels! Hope someone can help Iain |

Are you sure you're adjusting the recording volume controls? When you open up the sound card's mixer control panel you see the playback/monitoring controls. Click on Options / Properties / Recording to see the recording sliders. These were probably returned to their default settings. |

It's possible you're using different drivers for the card now than you were before. You might want to go to SoundBlaster's website and download the most recent drivers. |

You say your getting "-37.5 on the left channel and -38.7 on the right".. Does this mean with no input? In addition to what Chien said, check SF input/output parameters: Options/Preferences/Wave see if your awe64 soundcard is listed and/or try "Microsoft Sound Mapper". |

Ok. Will Try all these ideas... Thanks people!! Im thinkin of getting one of those external SB things, i think theyre called Audigy 2 or something. They seem like the perfect thing with a usb connection which should hopefully mean no or very little hiss and hopefully a clearer sound in all cases Thanks again |
