i'm having trouble editing some sounds. I want to take a voice sample and lower it. Raise ont to be about fourteen to sixteen years old. One needs to sound about twenty-seven. and one needs to be deep and about thirty. Please let me know what i'm doing wrong. |

Try using Effects / Pitch / Shift. I got some semi decent results raising the voice up to about 4 semitones. I set the Accuracy to 3 high, Aplpy anti-alias filter, Preserve Duration, and mode A07. Speech 1. There were some artifacts that sounded a little like a steel plate reverb, but it wasn't too bad up to 4 semitones. After that it got a lot worse. Overall the effect was similar to a youngster with adenoid problems. ;) Lowering the voice worked well all the way down to -12 semitones, but the effect was only lowering. It didn't seem to make the voice sound older at all. There is a lot more to aging a voice than simply lowering it. Vocal chords change in their elasticity with age, the shape of the mouth and throat change, nerve impulses slow down, etc. There have been some good experiments with simulating this, but SoundForge is a general tool and not designed specifically for this task. |
