Hello,
I'm a DJ and trying to design a intro form my mixes. I hate the sound of my voice so I want to try to get a "robotic", "phaser" or "vocoder" effect to try to disguise it. Is there any thing I need to do in Sound Forge (being a newbie) to get this effect, or are there direct x plug in's to install to achieve this. I really appreciate your feedback adn you can reash me at this forum or at my email address which is djbearca@sbcglobal.net
Thanks
John

Actually there is some really cool stuff that you can do, with an effects processor and then import that into Sound Forge. I have a text to speech generator -- then I actually use a MIDI keyboard to play the speech file with different keys and it sound great.

(1) Use FL Studio version 4
(2) Speech Synthesis
(3) Control that loop with MIDI keyboard
(4) Record that loop session
(5) Export wave file
(6) Open in Sound Forge 6.0e for further processing

All of this capability comes at very low cost with great flexibility. The Advantage to this is that it is independent of hardware. But an effects processoer may be a great tool to have.

Please comment.

Hello Kevin,

Did you purchase FL Studio 4? Is it worth the purchase?

I'm new at this voice thingy, but does FL Studio have a voice thing you can use so you can text to speech and then try to manipulate it?

What is a Effect Processor, does it come in software that you can add to Sound Forge?

Thanks so much for answering my questions, do you know how to to "process" the voice in Sound Forge?

Hope to hear from you.

Thanks Again,

John

Actually FLStudio is a create tool, because it is a...

(1) Sampler
(2) Sequencer
(3) Multitrack
(4) Effects processor all in one

For 100.00 dollars it is a great deal, especially if you as a DJ wanna make custome beats and breaks, I use it all the time to create custom intros - and outros for DJ's they love it, because it sounds wicked nice, especially when I use a MIDI keyboard to create chorus like effects.

An effects processor is a real - time device that allows you to apply digital effects to an incoming signal, this device is advantageous because, it works in real time and once you get to know with the right hardware you can really manipulate the sound.

I use one from Ibanez, I can feed the sound back into another channel, called effects return and then control the amount of effects that accompanies the main signal.

But I know there is a software dedicated to this voice/text manipulation, It might be a Native Instruments product.

Actually in Sound Forge, you can use the acoustic mirror tool, to apply the dynamics of one sound to another. Therefore you can make your voice emulate the dynamis of a whistle, dog or even a shotgun. I always amaze my friends when I do this stuff to there voices.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Please comment.

if you buy FruityLoops, get the Producer edition. It comes with a great vocoder as well as audio recording (plus more).

Hello Buckskin

I've went to the website to download FL Studio 4.0, is ti worth the purchase? I've been looking for a program with a good vocoder application, but most the software packages out there were either expensive or did not do the thing I wanted to do with my voice or other voices. I want to create a intro to my disco cd's but use a "disguised" voice (meaning mine) to a sweeper/loop to my dance mix.

I've used Fruity Loops in the past, but not this updated version. It looks awesome. Does FL STUDIO 4.0 have a text to speech application as well?

Please advise,

Your the best, and thanks for your feedback
John

Yes it does, a pretty nice one actually.

Best thing about Fruity is you get free upgrades for life. And while at first some things are a bit different than other app's, it's not hard to figure it out. There is a very large community for help/advice. And you get a couple of free GigaBytes of samples once registered from there samplefusion site.

I have a bit of a conflict of interest though as i'm the sample provider for them. :)

I suggest you download the demo from Tucows and check it out. It is fully functional, you just can't save. But you can render all the songs you want.
If you decide to buy it they send you the info to register and unlock the demo.

Akai has released some pretty nice VST plugins. The vocoder is really good. They also have a harmonizer and some other interesting things ... zzounds.com has them for about 60-80 bucks a pop.

http://www.akaipro.com/global/download/vstdload.html

(The Windows vocoder demo link is messed up on that page though so you can get it from here: http://www.akaipro.com/jp/datalib/download/software/vst/demo/win/dcvocoder.exe

You'll need a VST wrapper though: http://www.spinaudio.com/products_vstdxwrapperpro.html
