No, though there are two ways to get around this if it really troubles you.

a) Options->Preferences->Perform, uncheck "Show the record counter while recording"

-or-

b) Drag the record dialog such that the counter and flashing box are off screen.

yes I'm aware of the solutions, but thats a silly fix. Vegas counter doesnt behave this way, surely they could make Soundforge do it.

I have never found this to be a problem. The counter seems to be very cooperative with other processes. If something else needs processor power, the counter's update rate slows down to accomodate. I've never noticed my computer bogging down while the counter is running, not even back on a 66MHz 486DX processor.

maybe so, but heat and power consumption become a major issue when recording with a laptop. its not necessary for it to be 100% cpu usage for such a simple process
