Subject:Muffled Sound

Just after some generic advice.

I have a music recording (rock music) that is slightly muffled and i want to mix it in SF to try and improve the sound, what kind of filters and effects would you use to I guess "add some air" and brighten the mid and high end. Im experimenting with the Multiband compressor and EQing at the moment, are there any other alternatives ?
