Subject:Information being transmitted to SF?

I was wondering why and what information does SF 7 transmit when launched? I noticed that when I use netstat in the cmd prompt, SF establishes a connection to 12.148.206.103 ( which I verified to be a legitimate SF IP ). Does anyone know what info is being transmitted in this connection?

I'm not sure what is sent, but I don't believe it is anything personal. It is part of the Net Notify feature, which can be disabled in Options->Preferences->General if you wish.

Absolutely 100% nothing personal just application SoundForge, build 262, version 7, possibly something like place=notify. I'm not sure exactly what is sent but I know they are generic things like that. No serial numbers, names, etc. All the web guys want to do is make sure you don't get ACID notify pages or Help> Feedback page, say, for Vegas.

Humm... I saw that and turned it off - same result. In fact a new ip in addition to the old one showed up 12.148.206.96 and 12.148.206.103. Both are registered to SF. I can't see anything else web related. Do you think Sony put spyware in this release?

Sorry Suzan - I missed your reply. I don't mean to stir up trouble - I'm just a little paranoid with all the crazy stuff you can catch on the net these days. Any information you find out about this would be greatly appreciated.

As i understand it, the information that is transmitted is mostly the current version number you have installed on your computer. The net notify function uses this to compare with the latest version number that is available and will pop up a window letting you know if there is a newer version than what you currently have.
