i wanted to know what would be the proper amount of reverb to add to my vocals....im trying to give it depth but at the same time some seperation.....there's a bunch of experts in here, im sure someone can help me out....it'd be greatly appreciated peace |

It depends on the song. There's no proper setting for anything. Of course, too much of any effect is always tiresome ... and too little reverb can be "unnatural" sounding. Let your ears be your guide. Doug |

And someone else's ears too. After you get what you think sounds good, bring someone else in to listen as well. Your own ears get tired and saturated after a while. Fresh ears will notice problems that you won't. |

It's subjective, get a few opinions. Don't rule out a nice slap-back echo, which can be very effective. Ever heard any records by a guy named Elvis something? |

Here's a rule of thumb I've used when teaching students who have never been in a mixing session and adding reverb. Slowly start turning up the reverb, until you start to notice the FX, then back it off just a little. Of course your ears should be the final judge, but they are not a trained judge until you have a few mixes under your belt, which I think is the problem sacraphicial is faced with at this point. |
