Or maybe it's not i'm new to acid. I have the cheap screen blast version but I'm pretty sure it's the same as the pro version just dumbed down. Anyway, I recorded a 5 track song in Cakewalk and saved each of the tracks to wave files. I pulled those into acid for effects/mixing. After I apply a reverb effect to each track individually(is there another way?), I get very bad lag. The odd part is that it lags when the music from 4 of the tracks stop for a drum solo. It's like it's struggling to apply the effects to the silent tracks. As soon as the other tracks have data on them it goes back to playing smoothly. This system allows me to edit video very well with vegas 3.0 so I was suprised to see it choke on 5 tracks of audio. Bigger question. If I have vegas should I even bother using acid if all i'm doing is mixing? p4 2.4 XP 512meg Geforce 4 TI4600 Soundblaster Live value. |

It may be a combination of having 5 disk-based tracks plus having reverb done on the fly. Try reducing video acceleration or turn it off. The Live! cards' drivers, for the most part, just aren't up to snuff for intensive music making than, say, the cards made my Echo or M-Audio. They're geared for a specific purpose. Note that ACID was not meant as a multitracker; it's first and foremost a looping tool. Vegas takes the multitracking title. What you get away with for disk-based tracks in ACID will depend upon the health/configuration of your system. Some get away with having many disk-based tracks while others do not. (One-shots longer than 3 seconds playback from your hard drive; Beatmapped tracks always playback from your hard drive. Loops always playback from RAM.) Use ACID for its looping features (ACID can take any ACIDized loop and stretch it to fit a new tempo or key) and Vegas for its multitracking features. Thanks for the feed back. I'm just toying around with it right now and don't have a good feel for how it should be used. Sounds like I should stick with Vegas for this type of project. I bought acid by downloading and you don't get much sample material to play with when you buy it that way. Acid did render a perfect wave for me, so it was just a real time bottle neck issue. |
