I'm trying to digitally transfer audio from a DAT player to Sound Forge 6.0 on the computer. I bought a digital coaxial cable with RCA-RCA ends, but it doesn't seem to work; the music doesn't come through. Do I need to change settings, or am I using the wrong cable?
Thanks

Maybe this is obvious, but you didn't mention if your soundcard has a digital input? If you've got the spdif digital out of the DAT player connected to the Digital IN of your sound card, then you'll need to make sure in sound Forge that you have the digital input selected for recording. You'll also want to set the word clock of your sound card to external, to ensure you don't get any pops and clicks. Also, what DAT player do you have? Some DAT players have both AES and Spdif outputs and only allow one to be active at a time.

Also, assuming you are using a digital input, depending on your soundcard driver you may not actually *hear* the digital audio while recording, but you should see the meters responding with the 'Monitor" box ticked.
