since upgrading my computer to a LCD type monitor, I am getting a "flickering" when viewing wave files once the cursor centers in the view. It is as thought i can see the monitor "refreshing" very fast. It's really annoying.
My computer is AMD 1800+
gForce2 video card with current drivers
512mb DDRram
Monitor is Philips S150S LCD.
have tried changing the refresh rate on monitor, it has only 60, 70, and 72 available.
this monitor can play high powered 3D games with no problem, i dont understand why my screen has to flicker in sound forge.

any thoughts?
Pete

I didn't think LCD's had this problem, but I know I get this with my CRT monitor. It's due to the location of my speakers being close to my monitor. Try unplugging your speakers and see if the problem goes away. This was one reason why on my next video monitor, I was going to go with LCD. So I hope I'm wrong. Let us know what you find.

I don't think LCD monitors have the magnetic interference problems either.

Have you tried both the "compatible draw mode" and "compatible scroll mode" options under Options>Preferences>General tab on the menu bar?

Try also reducing your video acceleration (or turn it off). You may also want to see if drivers are available for your specific monitor brand.

thanks for your suggestions!

I have tried both Options: draw and scroll modes for broken vid drivers, didn't help.

have newest drivers for monitor loaded.

tried unplugging the speakers no help either.

I ran SF on my old computer in the bedroom...it has CRT monitor,
wav file looks great.

I have an LCD at work also and ran a file there...got the same flickering
at that system has speakers that are nowhere near the desktop, so I'm sure it isnt' a speaker problem.

tried all setting for reducing video acceleration in troubleshooter, no luck there either.

So, sorry and thanks again for the suggestions...will keep looking but think down deep that it is the monitor...could be the Philips S150 model, it's the same one i have at work.

LCD monitors are certainly immune to magnetic fields.
Is it just the waveform part of the display that flickers?
I'm VERY new to SF but i have noticed it seems so busy at tiem updating things on the screens (mine are both CRTs) that at times i get nasty trails behind the pointer. That I can live with but i am planning to upgrade to dual LCDs very soon but this problem is a bit of a put off.
What I'm thinking is happening is SF is updating the waveform display even thought it's not changing and this is strobing with the LCDs scanning. That would fit with the problem not occurring when the cursor is moving, the redraw rate slows as the system is busy redrawing the pointer.Probably a faster or slower procesor might make the problem less obvious.
Maybe if you can find something extra for SF to update would cure the problem if I'm right, don't know enough about SF yet to imagine what though.
