Subject:Newbie w/ tascam mixer to control SF7

Hello everyone. I am a musician, bass and guitar, that has invested in an 8 channel tascam FW-1884 mixer that communicates via firewire port, installed in my PC.
I have been struggling with Acid, but have a drum track created, and have rendered it to a .wav file, but can't figure out how to record the file playing on my computer, and the analog inputs in my mixer, of me playing bass, at the same time. It seems that when I get the control screen to specify what to record, it only gives me 2 channels to choose from. I thought I would be able to record all 8 channels at once. I listen through a pair of self powered truth monitors, and have worked through many small snags so far, but one problem I can't seem to figure out, is how to have remote control of SF7, the new mixer has all kinds of buttons and shortcut keys to do all editing functions, as well as play/ record ect. buttons. But I can't get them to work.

any all help would be greatly appreciated. I somehow thought that since acid and SF7 are both sony products, that they would work together in harmony, without much hair pulling.

SF and Acid DO work together in harmony. The problem is, like the previous poster you are looking for a multi-track recording app. such as Vegas. Sound Forge is a two track/stereo audio editor. Kind of like using a hammer to cut plywood.

Hello --
There SF7 does not support external surface control.

It is not a multitrack recorded, nor is it a multitrack editor.

ACID, does not permit surface control as well, it is a loop sequencer controlled with keyboard and mouse.

If you want surface control and multitrack features then there are many other programs which may meet your needs (assuming that you have the right hardware).

Good - Luck

As others have said, Sound Forge 7.0 and ACID (Pro 4.0, I'm assuming?) are not multitracking apps; that title belongs to Vegas alone.

You probably can record all 8 channels at once, but they'd end up getting mixed down to a stereo (or mono) file in ACID or Sound Forge.

You could definitely record 8 separate tracks if you had Vegas.

You should be able to monitor while recording, according to the FW-1884's manual. Pay special attention beginning in section 4.3.

Sound Forge 7.0 (the full version) can be controlled and triggered by an external MIDI controller, but it has to be configured. The FW-1884, from what I could glean, has MIDI I/O but it apparently doesn't act as a MIDI controller itself (plus doesn't route MIDI into your computer via FireWire).
