When I dub old audio cassettes thru my sound card to sound forge, (analog signal converted to digital), I cannot control volume of line in signal. Even when I turn the line in signal down WAY WAY low, the monitors of sound forge are way into the red. Consequently, the sound is really DISTORTED. Is there any way I can correct this? Please help. In advance, a thousand cheers to YOU out there in Cyber-land. |

The best solution is to control the source's output, cassette player in your case. If there's no control there (line signal) then I'm assuming you have a consumer sound card and connected to it's line in, bring the line in fader down while viewing Sound Forge's meters in the Windows "RECORD" mixer window. Make sure you are using the "Line" input and NOT the "Mic" in. In Windows: Double-click the Windows speaker icon. Select Options>Properties>Recording>Line>OK. Under Show the following volume controls.Check mark the Select box for Line. Adjust the line volume control for optimal record levels while viewing the Sound Forge record window meter. Ctrl+R The Options>Properties>Playback window Line volume controls the loudness of the line input going to your speakers . The Options>Properties>Record window Line volume controls the loudness of the input going to Sound Forge (or other recording software). |
