I am using Sound Forge 6.0 (build 132). There are no update letters after the 6.0. Should I update this software using the Sony update package designated 6.0e? What are the benefits or downsides? Many thanks, Richard |

Lots of bug fixes. See http://download.sonypictures.com/readmes/soundforge60e/forge_readme.htm There really isn't any reason not to update. Be warned however, that this update "rebrands" your installation from SonicFoundry to SONY and may move installation files and plugins to different directories. There is a migration tool built right into the installation that will clean up everything and make sure all settings and preferences point to the new directories. If you have odd problems with not being able to find plugins after upgrading then run this migration tool and all should be well again. |

Take1, as long as your running the original 6 with any of the original (pre-sony versions of the apps) the install is painless and simple with no changes. a rebranding has been asked for time and again to bring it to parity with the other apps. 6e remains a sonic foundry item with no sony branding at all - despite having acid etc updated to sony branding in an effort to push an upgrade to sf7 which is still waiting multiple fixes and revision to bring it in line with its advertised specs. I wish they would rebrand 6, because its just wierd having one half of a tool set (acid4) as sony and the other as foundry. when its all the same company now. |

Thanks for the replies. My hesitation wth updates for any software is that frequently the updates cause more headaches than they do good. I don't understand the branding issue as to why features would be shifted to new directories etc. Please elaborate. |

doesn't apply to any version of 6 chien was referring to 7.0 and higher, sony made a terrible judgement call with tampering with the directory structures and shifting many components around as well as some hideous programming judgements with 7.0 which have caused confusion and aggravation and some harsh words here on the forum in the beginning - to alot of users. But in their defense - it is the price of progress and 7a did address some of those things. Hopefully as the whole line changes over to their next versions, some of those things will go away. Until then, go get the 6e update and have fun. It's solid, stable and a bit faster than 7 in regular uses. |

Spheris, you're right. Sorry, i was thinking of 7. None of the rebranding issues apply to 6. |

"Spheris, you're right. Sorry, i was thinking of 7." I was thinking the same thing, but haven't done any 6.0 updates since the release of 7.0, so I thought they may have slipped in a rebranding update from your post. Actually v7.0 shipped out the door branded under Sony, so still not sure what you're referring too. The rebranding issue happened when you had Sonic Foundry v6.0 registered plugins like .MP3 and .MPEG and needed to migrate those licenses over to Sony v7.0 licensed plugins. The only apps that had a rebranding in the same version was ACID 4.0, Vegas 4.0 and CD Architect 5.0. |
