I want to set up a schedule to record a couple of radio programs while I'm out of town for a few days. I do that in the "Timed Record" dialog box. I exit Soundforge. Later when I start Soundforge again to check the schedule it has forgotten what I typed in. I want my assistant to start my computer on the day the programs air, start up soundforge and let 'er rip. I consider this a bug. Even if I set up a workspace and save it, the timed recording schedule does not get saved. When will this oversight be fixed? There are currently free programs out there that will do what I want, but I would rather use soundforge. In fact, this new capability was the main reason I upgraded to 7.0. Another problem: Is there any way to tell the timed recording that I want to record directly to mp3 format, or must I always use "Save As" when the recording has stopped? The free program I mentioned above, AudioGrabber, also does this. For what it's worth, I also tried converting a 4-hour long WAV file to MP3 the otherr day and it crashed the MP3 encoder. Any thoughts? |

As to the first item, where timer settings do not persist between instances, yes, that's dumb, and will be fixed in the next update. I don't have a date on when that will happen. As for recording directly to a compressed format, it's been considered before and will probably be reconsidered for the next major version of Sound Forge. Immediately shoving input into a lossy compressor isn't something I'd normally encourage, but it does make sense for "VCR" style recording. In the meantime, if AudioGrabber works for you... J. |
