I've downloaded the Soundforge 7 trial version from the website on my work PC (fast connection!) and want to install it on my home PC which doesn't have an internet connection. When I try to run the program it tries to connect to the internet in order to register and won't let me start it up any other way. Is there a way to register the program without going on the internet. I can't really evaluate it at work! Thanks |

There are a couple of methods. One is to call customer support and request the registration. Another is the option to "Register from another computer". This method creates an HTML file on a floppy disk which you then open on a computer that does have internet access. This file sends the appropriate information to the registration server and returns a .reg file which you can save back on the floppy, then install when you get back home. I've used this second method a few times and it works nicely. The only downside is the time it may take you to get to a computer with internet access and back. |

Unfortunately with SF 7a trial, register from another computer was not an option--this was a mistake on our part. Call when you're sitting in front of your home computer. I'm sorry it's a toll call (I'm guessing from the Electromancer web site that you're overseas) but it should be short. Hope this helps, Suzan |

Thanks for the help. I got an email from Suzan at Sony (thanks!) explaining how to get around the problem. Apparently, the program tries to dial out 3 times and then asks if you want to register by phone. |

I can't take credit, the e-mail wasn't from me but I'm glad you got it straightened out. Suzan |

"Apparently, the program tries to dial out 3 times and then asks if you want to register by phone" Been there, done that one before. My work PC, although connected to the internet won't allow the internet registration process to complete because of server setting filters. This actually happened on an early beta of SF7, after my 30 day trial version expired. So I tried 3 times, then got the number for customer service. I called them up and told them I needed assistance registering SF7. They where a little protective at first at that time....had them wondering....ahhhh? Sound Forge 7.0 hasn't been released yet. I had to drop the big guns though and say, "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM!?" Of course I'm kidding they where very helpful. red |
