hi everyone,

been playing around with the screenblast version of sound forge and i've got a minor (but somewhat irritating) display problem with the recording window.

Here's what my window looks like:

when it should look like this:

i'm just about ready to buy the software, but i want to know if this is an issue i can fix after paying the 70 bucks. I tried changing the appearance back to the XP appearance but no luck with that either... in fact it was worse.

thanks in advance,

raji

Now that's pretty interesting isn't it?

Could you give some more information, so maybe others can try to recreate it? Probably some important ones might be...1. What video card does your PC have? 2. What is the "screen area setting". 3.What theme are you using when it get's messed up like that? Does it always open like that using that theme, or just occassionally? Is Sound Forge in a full screen maximized state, or semi-minized state, when this happens?

The "crap" screenshot is either Win 9x/ME or XP classic mode, the "should be" screenshot is XP's Silver Theme.

mjhig, i did try to switch to the XP silver theme and the problem was the same.

rednroll, i have a GeForce Ti 4600 with 128mb. What do you mean by screen area setting? If you mean my screen resolution, then it's set at 1600x1200. I turned it all the way down to 800x600 and in that mode, the problem was almost fixed, but 800x600 is not my idea of a solution... =) I'm using the classic theme (my 3d program has issues with the xp theme) but as i said i tried switching themes and the problem is the same. It's like that every time i open up the record window. I've noticed that it gets a whole lot worse when i resize soundforge to a smaller size. It tries to squeeze all the buttons in an even smaller area. Making any sense?

Do you think maybe this is a windows problem and not a soundforge problem? A hardware problem maybe?

"Do you think maybe this is a windows problem and not a soundforge problem? A hardware problem maybe?"

Exactly, that's why I was asking for your settings, so that I could setup the same settings and see if I also get the same problem on different hardware. Have you checked your video cards website for an updated driver? I would see if there is one, install it and see if the problem goes away. I don't believe 800x600 is a solution either, I just wanted to set my display setting resolution to the same as yours. This should be pretty easy for me to try and replicate, I'm already in the classic windows theme (I have issues with the XP theme :-)~), I just need to change the display resolution settings.

well i downloaded the latest nvidia Geforce drivers and the problem is still the same... really weird. Depending on the size of the main Sound Forge window, the record window will vary in size and lay the buttons on top of each other. The smaller the record window gets, the more messy the buttons get. If only i could resize the record window it'd take care of the only problem i've had so far... sony are you listening? give us the ability to resize all windows... please... =)

>>>> I'm using the classic theme<<<<

This is the problem! Didn't you see in my previous post;

>>>>or XP classic mode<<<< ?

If you must stay with classic mode for the "3D" program then you will have to live with the way the "appearance" looks.

mjhig, like i said before, i tried the XP theme and it still gave me the same problem. XP or classic them, the problem is still there.

i uninstalled and re-installed sound forge and now it won't even freakin' run!!! grrrrrrr!! It gives me what looks like a memory error... :

An error occured starting Sound Forge. Error 0x8004e153(message missing)

now i'm just pissed. This message comes up right after sound forge tries to register...

Did you try reducing or turning off video acceleration?

Is there an option under Options>Preferences>General tab, called, "compatible draw mode"? I know this is in the full version of Sound Forge, but I don't know about the Screenblast version.

Definitely sounds like a video driver problem.

mD thanks for the reply. I did actually try turning off the acceleration all the way and it still gave me the same problem. And yeah there's a compatible draw mode in the screenblast version.

well i like sound forge too much, so i bought it! hehe. That and movie studio. I'm just hoping i won't spend all my time contacting sony because sound forge's demo wouldn't start anymore... =/

thanks everyone.

I changed my display setting to 1600x1200 and wasn't able to recreate the same problem. I think you definately have a video card drive issue.
