Subject:Soft Synth...What the heck....

Ok, I need to understand, why is it that when I change to the Acid soft synth, my voices (sounds) don't sound the same as those coming from my S03? I hate the say it, but the strings in the soft synth sound like crap comnpared to the S03, plus the soft synth does not have as many voices to choose from. So what am I suppose to do? Is there a way to import the sounds from the S03 into Acid somehow without having to record the voice as audio instead of MIDI? I just want to be able to record my voices into the track to sound "JUST LIKE" the sound coming from the S03. And then from there can any guide me step by step on rendering those files from MIDI to wav.

If you want to record the sounds being produced by the S03 itself, you're going to have to record digital audio rather than MIDI, since the S03 acts as a hardware-based synth rather than a software-based one.

All you're doing right now (I'm assuming) is sending MIDI data from the S03 for the DLS soft synth to interpret.

What is an S03?

The reason the DLS synth doesn't sound the same is that it is not the same? The DLS synth uses a very basic GM sample library from Roland. It is based on the original GS sample set from Roland. This sound set is provided by Windows.

You could always purchase or make your own DLS sample libraries and use those instead of the default set. There is a thread in these forums that discusses just that.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about how one could create their own DLS set.

I think the S03 is a keyboard synth/MIDI controller from Yamaha? (I did a quick Google search for it.)

You're right, that's what the S03 is. So how do I go about creating my own DLS set? Is this going to allow me to have those same sounds as my S03? If so, once I find out how to do it, I am going to work my tail off to get this accomplished.

AWave Studio? I think there was a free DLS creator/editor from Microsoft too...
