I don't know how this happened, but: I can (as always) record a sample at 96/24 in Sound Forge 7. Yet, when I go back to play the sample I just recorded, all I get is hiss. Mind you, it recorded the sample cause I can see it. I must have ticked something somewhere, but can't seem to locate the problem. Any Ideas? Thanks |

What sound card are you using? I've heard of some audigy soundblaster cards, where they'll record or maybe it's playback at 24/96, but won't playback/record at 24/96. I forget what order it was. Here's a post from "Sonic" on a similar problem, which probably helps explain the problem you're having. Sonic Said: One of the real problems with the Windows kmixer in WinXP is that it will accept most any format requested even if the hardware can't handle it, then try to do the right conversions itself. But this doesn't always work due to conflicts in driver/kmixer negotiation, and adds undesirable processing outside of the card even if it works. This and other kmixer interference may be good for Joe Consumer, but is detrimental to pro audio and one of our biggest gripes with Windows. We've voiced our opinions with MS and will continue to discuss it with them in the future. In the meantime, WinXP users really need to be aware of what the card is _supposed_ to allow, rather than what appears to (perhaps) work. |

In Preferences>Wave: I had somehow ticked the 'Try Unpacked 24 Bit Format First' check box. I unchecked that. All works fine now, Thanks |
