Subject:distortion and echo in right channel while recording (newbie)

i've just installed sound forge 7.0 and my first recordings sound fine in the left channel but the right channel is distorted and has a long (1 second-ish) echo on it.

Any ideas?

Odd. What's your soundcard/audio interface? How are you recording? (Please try to be thorough as possible, from origin to destination and anything in between like cables used, type of jacks, etc.)
