Good question--thats the one thing that many of us have asked for.

I've had only a tiny bit of time to look at this but I'd say that "Nested tracks" is more of a compositional tool than a project management tool.

It's a good idea that no one asked for. It probably should never have been called "Nesting" because this is going to create far mor gripin than it's worth.

But then again, as we dig into it, maybe it'll turn out to be useful for what people actually wanted.

Right now, I use Vegas for putting together some scenes...I like using the audio waveforms to help find spliting points...but I organize and assemble in Adobe Premiere Pro.

It looks like that will continue...although I have to pay $450 for two upgrades!!!

Sony...I am disappointed. An important feature to compete with FCP is missing.

I too really, really wish there was a way to include sub-compositions,
like other complete veg files, on the timeline as events. It's really nice
to break long projects into blocks that you edit in other files and then
build them up into complete shows. Other than the network rendering,
I see little that I truly need in this upgrade.

What sony calls nesting is not really nesting as defined by other apps. Sony's nesting is used for the compositon features. Nesting in other apps is used to manage scenes and such.

I for myself would really be happy to see real nesting in Vegas some day.

More simply, the ability to drag a VEG file on the timeline that would appear as a big block.. Double clicking it would open another instance of Vegas.

I was also hoping that this version would have nested sequences/timelines. Cinestream had this feature and it was extremely useful. I will still upgrade because there are new features I will use.

Yes, real nesting would be much appreciated also from me.

I would love to learn more about how a product is developed. It seems remarkable to me that the media management and nesting issues haven't been addressed---would love to know why. It's obvious that its been a request by Vegas users from 3.0 on---is it that difficult to impliment. It's one of the few things that keeps potential buyers from dropping the bucks for this wonderful NLE---Can someone from Sony answer????

Although I would have liked Nested Sequences, that would give us an additional organisational feature rather than a new function, so I can see how it would drop in importance compared with features such as bezier masks or 3D motion, which are terrific.

The main thing missing from the organisational tools was Subclips, and we now have that.

Remember also that Vegas does enable multiple instances which covers at least some of the same funtionality.

My guess is that they did not have enough time to make all our wishes come true before NAB. The nesting will probably be there in 5.0b or c along with some other things and bugfixes. Does it sound reasonable?
