Subject:OT: Taking a bite out of WAREZ

Well maybe this comment is out of place in this forum, but I am glad to see that illegal software hackers are getting pinched. I really think that the best way to keep a good product alive is to support it by directly supporting the creators, that way more cool stuff could be made available to more people for relatively decreasing costs. I have seen too many WAREZ versions of audio tools, being used by people who could careless since they did not buy it. Therefore serious legitimate users are often the only ones to promote a particular software tool.

Justice Dept. Raids Online Piracy Networks

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Investigators have raided 120 sites across the globe to break up online piracy networks that distribute copyrighted music, movies and software, the U.S. Justice Department (news - web sites) said on Thursday.

The investigation, carried out in 27 U.S. states and 10 foreign countries, targeted covert "warez" groups that distribute computer games and other works before they are officially released, the Justice Department said.

More than 200 computers have been seized so far and nearly 100 individuals have been identified, the Justice Department said.

Warez groups, consisting of tech-savvy hackers and industry insiders, compete with each other to post pirated works on secret computer servers.

From there, the works quickly spread across the Internet and become available to millions through file-sharing networks like Kazaa and Morpheus.

Server computers seized in the raids contained hundreds of thousands of illegally copied works, the Justice Department said.

Foreign searches were conducted in Great Britain, Germany, France, Israel, Singapore, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Hungary and Sweden, the Justice Department said."

Thanks for that heads up, Kevin. It's really not out of place here.

I'm totally with you on this one. Warez suck.

Does anyone know where I can get a Warez version of Reason? I really wanted to try this program out, to see if it would give me some virtual synth sounds I was looking for and use it through rewire in Acid. I downloaded the demo....it took me three days to finally get the demo to work, after I went to their website and read through a 100 forum posts that described my problem, which quite a few users had. It kept given me an error that I was running the wrong rewire component or something like that, and then just closing out. Well, the program was smart enough to tell me what was wrong, you think they could have spent sometime to guide me in the right direction to fix it? I finally found out that I had to manually find the rewire.dll file on my system and delete it, then reinstall the demo. Huh!!!? Shouldn't the installer do that, to make sure the compatible driver is installed!? So anyways after that frustration, I'm not so familiar with using Reason. I like to print up the manual and have the program open and try things out as I go along, so I can get the feel of how the program works. Well the demo version has a 20 minute time limit....It takes me 20 minutes to read part of the manual at times. So as I went to try something out that I just read, the program keeps closing out on me. I got so frustrated with my experience with Reason, that I closed it out and didn't want to give it another chance.....and I still don't know if it will give me what I'm looking for, so hell if I'm going to go out and buy it to find out. I sure would love a warez version to try out in this scenario, because obviously Propellar Heads, took their copy protection too far, where it actually detered me away from buying the program.
