Hi, I have a hum in one of my sound files that I can easily isolate. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can eliminate it? Thanks, Kenrick |

SONY's Noise Reduction plugin is the best way. If the hum is a very narrow frequency range you can use EQ to create a notch filter at that frequency. This may get rid of a lot of it without having to use Noise Reduction. |

Noise reduction works well for removing hum and other constant din type noise. It's a separate DX plug-in and must be purchased. Otherwise EQing can attenuate it. However it also attenuates everything in that frequency range. Hum usually occurs @ 50 or 60Hz depending on where you are. (60 in the USA).. Try using a notch filter in the Parametric EQ and experment with the parameters for the best result.. There also may be some noticeable harmonics occuring |

Thanks for the suggestions. Can you tell me the URL where these things are purchasable? I used to have a noise reduction feature in another program that allowed me to highlight just a section of the noise, then it would process that out of the entire file. Is that what the noise reduction 2.0 does? Kenrick |

Is that what the noise reduction 2.0 does? Basically yes... Go to the top of the page > hover over Products > click Noise Reduction. MJ |

Ditto the Sony Noise Reduction Plug in. It is truly amazing. Sometimes you need to do multiple passes to remove the unwanted sound in small increments but it is up to the task. Jina my wife had a hearing impaired sound man (yes, really) on the Shure filed mixer and ended up with the on cam people's levels being only slightly higher than the roar and hiss of the refinery. It took several hours of fiddling but I was able to salvage the audio, thus preventing the client being justifiably enraged. DOugls Spotted Eagle wrote an article about multiple passes recently on the DMN forum, check it out, he explains the proess far better than I ever could. Peter Peter |
